There could be 2 derivative.
1. with web cam. It will be a wireless cam phone with TV or VGA as output.
Good tools for video phone apps.
2. With Text LCD display and it could be the iCon MP3 player.

The prototypes will not need a lot of money.
Need to work closely with SKYPE
Also need a USB/PCI phone interface to do the local loop interface.
Open up the API so that SKYPE can drop to local or local to SKPPE.
It will be fun.
The LED on phone will flash as if the cell phone.

quality and multisuer

how about multi-user environment?
the voice quality is important and also music quality.
there could be spin off as a watch, media center remote controller and to add a USB kb.

local subscriber loop

The handset can also make local call too. It will become a full blown cordless phone.
However, how to reroute the call to the local loop? An USB interface to subscriber loop?
I think it could be done or the USB transceiver can do the job.

conceptual stage

Karuna had this business requirements and I proposed, evluate this wusb ip phone concept. I wasn't convince to start with. However, after carefully think about it. It will be another opportunities and also good to test the water.
The investment should be small and there is no much to lose.
It basically not only a a niche product, the phone but also resurrection of the iCon as well as a portable MP3/WMA media player.
There should be a hot button that enable hotline among user group.
Let's go for it and see how it goes.
It is still a fantasy of mind that deep inside myself.
